Bill,
According to my 2002 Bahamas cruising guide, you must clear with Customs and
Immigration "at the nearest port of entry." This must be done within 24
hours to avoid any penalties. Depending on your approach, you may wish to
clear at Bimini or West End instead. The exception that would allow you to
clear in at Nassau is if you cannot safely approach the nearest port of
entry. Hope this is helpful.
Louis

Someone just told me that you must
"check in" in the Bahamas within 48 hours of
entering Bahamian waters. Is this true ?
I was planning to leave from Florida and
check in at Nassau, but it might take me
3 days or more to get there. I'd fly
the "Q" flag, do no fishing, never go
ashore. Is this legal ?
Thanks,
=====
