[world-cruising] Oppression?

Subject: [world-cruising] Oppression?

LOL!!! Too funny! (Yes, I am laughing; please insert sincere amusement into
your reading, LOL!) - Chip, you are talking to someone who has lived for
years in various countries under Dictatorships, in Central and Southern
Africa.

I have survived where even what we *wore* was under surveillance and
penalties for wearing the wrong thing, or having the wrong beliefs or
behaviour patterns, or wearing your hair wrong, could get you thrown into
jail or deported. I had to leave my family and home at 17 when I left
school, to go to another country, because it was illegal for companies to
employ white school leavers. I have been raped by men who believed they had
the right to do so, because of the colour of my skin and their need to
demonstrate that they were "in power" (no, I'm not "black" or "coloured",
I'm "white"). I have had my home ransacked by an oppressive regime because
of my political beliefs - try coming home to find every corner of your house
ripped apart, everything you own strewn over the floor so you can't put a
foot down without standing on something. I have had the police refuse to
answer a call for help, because they had me marked down as a "political
trouble-maker" - or, in the phraseology of the Afrikaaner, I'm a
"kaffir-boetie". I've had them deliberately "lose" my fingerprint records
and file, for the same reason. I've had my home country handed over to a
dictatorship which ripped it apart in less than 20 years and is currently
being "encouraged" by the Western world to change its record of human rights
abuses.

Yep, I know all about oppression. Preachin' to the choir, honey! <ggg>
(Again, I wish to stress that I speak with WRY HUMOUR.)

Keeping it on topic, why the heck do you think I want to go sailing???
Hehehe!!

Best
Jodie
