Hello list,

The med is still at 40 deg north. The west side is better because the
depressions that come from the Atlatic mostly have a norh-easterly course,
which makes the western part of Europe warmer and wetter than a similar
lattitude further East. Compare the Seattle weather to that of New York.
Europe is like Seatlle, only there are no mountains behind, the rain gets
spread over a bigger surface.

Well, the route is still being taken by round-the-world sailors. But no-one
stays there too long, and everyone folows the southern shore or stays out at
sea.

I may have sounded a little too negative, the way you put it here is quite
right. And Turkey still is stable. You can even talk about Greece in Turkey
now ;-) !!!

> Is Morocco relatively safe or is that also a no-go neighborhood?

It is a good country to stay, unfortunatly the harbours are the worst place in
it. Too many people preparing to cross over to Spain illegaly, dirty places,
no accomodation for yachts, ...

> I am a little surprised to hear about the lack of anchorages too.

The reason is simple: most good anchorages in Italy, France and Spain have
been taken by marinas. It's a very densely populated area. There are
anchorages, but no "in all weather safe" ones. Don't forget the wind can come
from any direction and change 180 degrees overnight. No trade winds here !

So on the Northern shore that only leaves Yugoslavia (The northern part is
stable again, I was there last spring), Greece and Turkey as I mentioned. And
the odd exception in France, Italy and Spain. The Islands should offer some
extra posibilities as well.

Rhodos e.a. are Greek islands ...

Only too much true. I have no idea on prices, but I know of Belgians who had
to stop cruising after 3 months (2 years ago, in Spain where my parents have
their house) due to lack of money and no place to stay for free ...

As long as you can afford the marina, a perfect idea. And you may encounter a
cheaper marina, especially if you take a "longer stay arrangment" during the
winter.

It has just been on the news here: The Euro has caused a slight increase in
prices, especially pubs and restaurant prices have gone up more than 5 %.
Other prices stayed similar. In general, I don't think it makes a big
difference - unless you continuously eat and drink ashore !

True, no time to change the website. The plans for the new one are taking form
!
