Hi Rick,

It's a Swahili word, pronounced more like:

cham - said more like a mix of "um" and "arm"
che - (e said as in "well")
la - short, as in "uh"

It means "rushing wind" or "whirlwind". She's a racer-cruiser, racing hull
and cruising interior, and very fast. We didn't name her though, the
previous owner used to charter her off Zanzibar - but we liked the name and
kept it because of the connotation of the Holy Spirit (rushing wind)! :-)

What's your boat called? I love hearing origins of names! How about everyone
else?

Richest blessings,
Jodie Holloway (South Africa)
