[world-cruising] Prescription drugs

Subject: [world-cruising] Prescription drugs

It is becoming apparent that if we ever hope to go cruising, we will
need to be able to supply ourselves with some prescription drugs. At
present, some of these are compounded by the pharmacy and have a
rather short shelf life not just your run of the mill pills. Some are
also pills though. Then, there will probably be the usual over the
counter stuff for aches and pains, colds, and the like.

It doesn't seem like it would be proper to carry all our medical
records and find a local doctor whenever we need to replenish the
stock. I've heard that drugs in other countries are not the same as
here in the U.S. in potency, etc. Then there would be the language
problems that come with explaining something like this.

How do you all take care of these little things? Do you try to
anticipate where you will be and when and have things sent to you
hoping they don't get "lost" in the world mail system or even our
own? Do you get a huge bottle of pills for 6 months or a year and
have to account for them in some way at every port or what? How do
you all handle this?

Thanks.

Rick
