Hi! I hope this is a good list to belong to. My family and I are
experienced cruisers - we took a year off and cruised from San Diego to the
Bahamas on a 35 foot power boat. You can read all about it and see all the
pictures at www.indiscipline.org Two adults, 2 kids (age at the time 11 and
9) and a mini Dachshund.

We traveled by truck from San Diego to Milwaukee, then through the Great
Lakes, Trent-Severn canal, Erie canal, Hudson river, Potomac river to
Washington DC, Atlantic ICW to Key Largo. Then we crossed the stream and
traveled through the Exumas to Georgetown, making it in time for the 2000
Georgetown Cruisers Regatta. All in all, we traveled 5000 miles in one year
and never had any accidents or breakdowns that I couldn't fix. I consider
myself somewhat of an expert on marine electronics, diesel engines and
generators, coastal navigation, fixing marine toilets, repairing fiberglass,
schooling kids on board, and things like that. I'll be happy to share my
knowledge and experience freely. However I don't know a clew from a luff.

Although I would like a Nordhavn 62, we had to sell Indiscipline and it's
time to move to a sail boat. I've been on land for 2 years now and feel
like a tame sea gull. It's time to disappear over the horizon. However, we
have to get the kids through high school and into college while we learn to
sail! Karen (my wife) and I are committed to our next voyage : we will
leave San Diego bound for the Caribbean, cross the Atlantic, and explore
Europe by sail. Only 597 weeks to go before we leave (just a little over
4000 days and counting). Meanwhile the 4 of us all want to return to
Catalina, the Channel Islands, etc. I would also like to take a month off
and do the Ha Ha in a couple of years - a voyage planned for just me and my
youngest daughter.

I was a member of the Trawler World email List for many years. Now that we
are moving to sail it's time for a different on-line community. As I begin
to search for a blue water sail boat that meets our needs and budget
(something like a Downeast 38?), I am sure I'll have lots of questions.
