No. Many people join yahoo lists without going through the "normal"
Yahoo sign up thing. I think way back at the "dawn of time" I joined
my first group without officially signing up with Yahoo. I just went
through the link or email address like you probably did. You can
still do the official thing if you want so that you can have your
Yahoo ID (of your choosing) and password (also of your choosing) for
future use.
If you choose not to have the ID and password, your access to the
site will be somewhat limited since the ID and password are used to
allow that access. You'll still be able to send and receive posts
though. You just will not be able to get to other features you might
want to have access to in the future.
Oh yes, it is _important_ to note that if you do the formal sign up
with Yahoo, their default settings _allow_ your information to be
accessed by commercial concerns (aka spammers to your personal email
address). It is an _opt out_ system. Be sure you change your
preferences to opt out if that is really your choice.
