Well Chuck, if you are going to cruise, as opposed to living aboard in a
marina, you need to be aware that daily and yearly prices are miles apart.
There are places in all countries that are really cheap and of course at the
other extreme.
In Australia if you cruise an visit the local marina for a day or a week you
can expect prices from A$25 per night for the smallest boat to A$100's. per
day for large boats.
The annual fee drops to quite low figures but is a bit irrelevant when
cruising.
I believe in the UK it is out of control with fees of ~$25 US (25 UK pounds)
just to anchor overnight in a river and a typical 40 footer paying a casual
rate of US$240 PER NIGHT! in a marina.
I don't know if casual rates in the US have the same range but you would be
advised to contact likely marinas and ask them for prices on a casual basis,
day week or monthly, and for short term levies plus laundry costs, key
deposits etc.
Don't think annual prices that live a-board's are charged is indicative of
casual day or week rates charged to cruisers!

Although I don't actually own a boat yet I'm
trying to find out how much it will cost me to
keep a boat in a marina...
I've looked at one place in Oriental, NC and the
price was something like $80 per foot per year...
Is this typical? Any hidden fees I should ask
about?
