I figure we are paying about $50/ft/year at our marina in the Chesapeake.
In addition to that we have to pay a per foot charge to haul and wash, but
the charge for being in the yard is the same as the slip charge and we also
get to keep our slip. In addition we have to pay metered electric in the
slip (but not in the yard), and for pumpout ($5 or $10 per). There isn't a
liveaboard fee and they do allow pets. However, they turn the water off in
the winter. If you want cable or sat TV or a phone at the slip, you
arrange for it to be installed. We have fixed piers, washers and dryers,
showers and a pool. There's no security, but it is a very isolated marina,
and you'd need a car to get to it. There is parking and at least in season
there's couple of local restaurants. The marina also has a loaner truck
and bikes for shopping or whatever (free for a limited time for the truck)
Up in Port Annapolis a friend was paying $3800/year for her slip for a 33
ft sailboat which would be about $115/ft. . I think that included
live-aboard fee, but not electricity or other fees.
You need to figure out where you will be working and survey the marinas in
a circle around that area that you could drive to in whatever time would be
acceptable to you. And then go talk to the people at those marinas.
There's a private sort of off the wall yacht club just south of Belhaven
called the River Rats or something of that sort, and they have a marina
there. If that was in your circle of opportunity you might consider even
joining them now. You don't have to actually have a boat to belong.
