A friend suggested Navman, so I looked carefully at them at the Annapolis
Boat Show. As compared to the Garmin units, their color was very washed out
when displayed outdoors (on an overcast day!).

Their electronics may be wonderful, but their display was among the worst I
saw. HTH.
