Hi List and Hi Lex,
I have been a viewer and lurker up to now but enjoy the posts when they
occur.

I received a flyer on Iridium phones recently, they are available in Aus via
at least one source for purchase via Tech Rentals ( in Victoria and Sydney I
think).
Most of the the refurbs from other sources I have been told have been sold.

There also was an article from an English yachting magazine saying that most
of the 2002 ARC yachts had Iridium and most had good success once the
interface to their PCs were sorted out.

  Greetings John

Thanks for the info re Iridium - I thought it had died through lack of
  funds or customers or both.

When you say "reasonable" - what does that mean?

I remember the original Iridium proposal was for equipment costs in the
$10,000US area plus some fairly horrendous volume charges. We wrote it off
as totally unaffordable for cruisers -but probably OK for commercial
ships,
  navies etc.

  Regards

  Lex

PS We're in the southern part of Australia and plan on heading to the
  south Pacific etc.
