Thanks Paul, It is too bad the owner had not appointed another Moderator. I own an Iceboating list and found this type of Spam a great problem.
Most of the problem comes from Yahoo accounts, so I require approval from all new members. It is pretty easy. The only down side is that sometimes new members have to wait a day or so to read/post.
You can ask for a volunteer moderator and configure them with less moderator privileges.
I automatically reject any address that looks random like, asdahflgjas or ,mcvsklmgs @XXX.XXX
If you do not get a volunteer stick my name in
Tom Wilson

Hi,
The new mailing list is set up. I am thinking of going through the list of
people on the worldcruising list (except spam addresses) and sending each of
them a subscribe request to world-cruising. How does everyone feel about
this? This will help save people some time and hopefully result in a more
thorough transference of addresses.
Paul.
