Import duty is about 17% made up of 10% GST and 7% duty.
The duty is based on the purchase price if recent. Otherwise it is based on a market valuation in Australia. An old Catalina 38 may be worth $100K+ (AUD) depending on age and fittings about $50,000 USD
Cost of shipping could be $30,000 AUD but you could sail it here your self and have a nice holiday but it would take a few months. The South Pacific is a nice place to be.

I am engaged to an Ozzie girl and am wondering how difficult it is to import
my Catalina 38. I will be emigrating in Jan 2004. any insights and info would
  be greatly appreciated.
