A lot of the chances for crewing occurs when there is a group of boats cruising in company.
When a whole bunch of boats arrive at the same time there are many crew changes.
These Rallies travel at the most popular time and there are many other boats travelling independently in harbours as well. The times are dictated by the need to avoid hurricanes and cyclones in each region of the world.
A web page that has some of these rallies is http://www.yachtrallies.co.uk/Route.htm
You can register your name there as a prospective crewmember.

There is a page with links to Races, Regatta's and Rallies 2002 at http://asianyachting.com/eventcalendar.htm This includes many cruising rallies in with serious racing

I hope this helps
