Since the primary purpose of the boom brake is to act as a preventer, you
should attach it as far aft as possible, that will allow it to work without
interfering with other rigging (especially the main sheet). It will hang
well below the boom, so it must clear your dodger or any other fixed object
underneath the arc of the boom as it swings.
