I'll try.

You should have a length of line (the control line) that goes from the port
side of your cockpit to a block located on your deck just aft of your
shrouds, to the boom brake, around the brake drum 3-4 times, out the
opposite side of the boom brake, to a block aft of your starboard shrouds,
and back to the starboard side of the cockpit.
