RE: [worldcruising] Re-Rigging Project

I redid my standing rigging with Staylocks. It was more expensive than
swedges this time, but when I do it again in the future the total project
will be cheaper, as Staylocks are reusable with new cones. So the economic
aspect of this changes with your view of how long you will own the boat. In
my case, I hope to own my boat long enough to need to change the rigging
again.

The most important reason to me was that my rigging is maintainable by me on
an ongoing basis, including that I can repair a stay at sea. I carry a
spare stay and spare Staylock parts. This was worth some premium.

Anyone somewhat mechanical can teach them selves to do Staylock. I bought
spare cones and did a few for practice before starting for real. Getting
the length right was tricky, stays stretch. I used a lot of toggles.
