[worldcruising] Re: Wiring inside masts - stripping and painting a mast

Four years ago, I pulled an aluminium mast that had been painted
black. I followed the advice offered in Dan Casey's "This Old Boat"
and stripped the old paint, wet sandeded it, chemically etched the
surface, applied a primer coat, then about 3 coats of two part
Interlux LPU (white) with a mohair roller. The result looked great
(you can see your reflection in it) and is still in great shape after
4 years. The only issue I faced was I allowed some droplets to harden
in the sail track that proved to be a nuisance when hoisting the sail
for a while.

If your mast was originally painted it probably wasn't anodized.
