Chuck, you might want to check out the irwin list on http://www.sailnet.com
which is very active with other over 200 irwin owners. The citations were
the lighter racing models built by a builder who built over 5,000 boats
before closing in 1986 or so during the VAT. I live aboard an irwin 37 ketch
and it would take a lot of work to make it capable of world cruising. It is
great for Chesapeake cruising and living aboard and offers far more room
than the North winds 43 I saw at the Miami boat show last week and it was
one of cruising worlds boat of the year for 2002 or 2001. Many faulted Ted
Irwin on how he built his boats but they continue to fill a niche and there
are many satisfied owners which is why you don't find them on the market too
often. The USCG has over 3,000 documented Irwin! Ted also built his boats
and didn't include the bow sprit in the LOA unlike Valiant and many others.
So I have a 43 I guess.
There are many Irwins out there cruising the Caribbean and other parts of
the world. Don't fall for the one review done by Prac
Sailor/Nordstroms/Nieman Marcus which faulted Irwin for his quality control
etc. If your buying an 1985, you know your going to have work to do on it
right?
A guy on our list just circumnavigated in an Irwin 39 citation. Goes to
show we don't all need that $500k Sabre or Swann cruising world and the
local used car salesman/broker expects us to fall for.

Hi all,
I have found what seems to be a sweet deal on an Irwin Citation 35, but I
can't find much
information on this model...
Anyone here experienced with this one, or know someone who is?
Thanks in advance,
Chuck
