Dear Michael,
Thanks for the suggestion regarding irbs.com. Unfortunately, I do not have a
blue water cruising boat. I have a small boardboat (a Force 5). I also have a
great desire to find something well-found with which to see a foreign port or
two. I did a lot of sailing as a kid and am old enough now to listen to sage
advice. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on, ranging from Desirable
and Undesirable Characteristics of Offshore Yachts, to Handbook of Offshore
Cruising (by Jim Howard), The World's Best Sailboats, and Sailing Alone
Around the World...
Currently, I'm in no hurry to find a used sloop or cutter, ranging from 29 to
37 LOA, in a moderate need of repair or refurbishment. I'm am planning to use
her for gunkholing as well as crossing deep water, so I'm sure she'll be full
of compromises. Seaworthiness, however, is NOT something that I will
compromise on.
Any advice you or anyone else can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jeffrey
