[worldcruising] Trailer-Sailers and Open Water

Subject: [worldcruising] Trailer-Sailers and Open Water

Hi,

I'm looking for comments for/against about buying a trailer-sailer which may have to be put to open-water cruising e.g. (say) Indian Ocean...but certainly waters like the Banda Sea in Indonesia, Coral Sea off Australia and the waters to the south of Australia.

I am thinking perhaps of a 28-30 ft vessel with 8 ft beam, inboard diesel and swing or lift keel.

I propose to retire in a couple of years and circumnavigate Australia, but I may want to take a side-trip ....out there.... somewhere...<grin>

Especially keen to hear from any trailer-sailer owners (past or present) who have sailed in this sort of open water. Theory is nice but I really want to hear experience please <smile>
