Last spring I had to replace my two group 24's. Found that when I
discarded the plastic battery cases, I could get two group 27
"Interstate" in place of the 24's. Also got the 27's for the price of
24's. Will see how long they last. (My 24''s were only three years,
but got abused by me (ran dry)).
As far as the plastic cases go, I never had a single drop of acid
leak or spill, even though I do sometimes put the rail under water.
The batteries sit athwartship on a shelf in one of the lazarettes.
