We are currently in Key West (actually Boca Chica NAS) and intend to
leave tomorrow for New Found Harbor and Marathon to wait for a
window. We are obviously not heading for West End, but the folks I
know that go from up there go there to check in.

If you don't want to go across the banks, Lucaya has two sections -
the west side is mostly power boats and a lot of mega yachts, but
Lucaya Village on the east side has lots of sail boats and is quite
reasonable for the Bahamas. There is a free water taxi to the other
side where all the restaurants are (and the music that goes on all
night, which is another reason not to be over there), and you can
walk out to the gate and get a 'bus' (actually a mini bus or van) to
Freeport to reprovision at the Winn Dixie for $1.00. THe marina
charges $5/day for unlimited water (mandatory charge) and has metered
electric.
