Congratulations. Bristol 32 is a good boat. Skip Lucaya. That is a power
boat stop, and is out of the way for a trip to the Abacos. If you are
leaving from Lake Worth Inlet, go to West End (Old Bahama Bay Marina) and
clear customs, then go up through Indian Cay pass to the Abacos. First stop
is anchorage at Great Sale Cay. You can make it to Green Turtle for the
next night if you really push it, but I'd recommend more leisurely trip.
Perhaps anchor at Allans/Pensacola, or visit the Marina at Spanish Cay.
Good anchorage at White Sound in Green Turtle. Do not try to get in Black
Sound. Be sure and get a copy of the Abacos Guide book by Steve Dodge.
About $10 at West Marine. Essential for sailing the Abacos, especially if
this is your first time.
Do not attempt to cross the Gulf Stream with any component of North (above
10 knots) in the wind. January can be dicey.
I'd try to go with you, but I am hauling for bottom job at the end of
January.
Good Luck and good sailing.

> Just joined... I live near Ithaca, NY, I have a Bristol 32 "Niche" that I
bought last June, spent the summer fixing (I thought it would take 2 weeks).
Starting Sept. I moved the boat to Melbourne Fl area by way of Erie Canal,
Hudson River, ICW, some ocean when winds were favorable. First 3 weeks got
us to Myrtle Beach, rented a slip for a month and returned to work, next 2
weeks to Melbourne, then Lake Worth, tried to make a quick jump to Freeport
Bahamas, but got skunked by the weather. I will be returning to Florida
1/26 to try another jump across the Gulf stream. Hopefully there will be
something other than 11-13' waves. The plan is to stop at Lucaya, then move
on to Treasure Cay, Green Turtle Cay area. I would be interested in finding
other cruisers that would make the Gulf Stream crossing at the same time.
