Of all places to find this, I found decent 12v lights at (gasp!!) Target (A
USA based discount chain). They came with a 6' or so cord with an inline
switch, a 110v transformer brick to plug in the wall, and a flexible
gooseneck with the bulb on one end and a squeeze clamp on the other end. I
just cut off the transformer and hard wired them in. They use the 15 or 20
(can't remember) watt halogen bulbs with a reflector behind them; *more*
than enough light to read by. If you could find lower wattage halogen
bulbs, they would work too. Since I run off NiCd batteries, they were
usually *very* bright (I typically experience 12.5 (*low*) to 15V)
And the best part: They were only $10 !!!! *and* I had a 12v brick
transformer left over to take home to power a 12v outlet for all those
boat/car accessories...
