[worldcruising] Re: lv-ab: Good 12v or other reading light

I have a Quartz-Iodine reading light that is very satisfactory. It
started life as a 120 V AC floorlamp with a flexible arm (from IKEA).
After one of my furry creatures broke the arm-support, the lamp
(what's left of it) went to the boat. That's when I discovered that
the output of the little transformer that comes with all these lamps
- is 12 Volt. Well what do you know – it works perfectly on 12 Volt
DC from the house battery. Bright and comfortable. No fluorescent
flicker, just a nice warm light. But beware, like all these quartz
lamps, it gets quite hot.
I since bought two more similar lights and will install them any day
now. Only problem: What to do with all these little 12 Volt
transformers? (I can't throw anything away – packrat ;-) )
