The September 1999 issue of Cruising Helmsman had an article on KI. In
summary it says ...
"KI's north coast offers many picturesque anchorages , however only
Kingscote and American River provide all weather protection, Fixed
moorings should be sought in American River because wind against strong
tidal stream is a problem, especially for fin-keeled yachts.
If coasting inshore, anchorages can be found off many small beaches seen
along the north coast. However a morning's calm anchorage can quickly
change when summer sea breezes start blowing. Such protected spots as Emu
Bay with its high dunes, or Snug Cove with its surrounding cliffs, are more
suitable for overnighting. De Mole River beach , a couple of miles west of
Snug Cove, is an excellent fall back if a late afternoon landfall finds the
tiny cove fully occupied. (The cove will only swing a couple of boats)."
