Hi,

We don't have fresh water to spare for washing clothes or kitchen pans etc on our boat so we have to use salt water.

I'm not trying to flog Amway, but we use:

Dish Drops - for galley washing up. But make sure you add the Dish Drops as you are filling the sink... not after you've filled it.

LOC - put clothes in a bucket with about 2 teaspoons of LOC into a 25 litre (5 gallon) bucket, and let soak overnight. Light wash and rinse in the morning is usually sufficient. Or as previously suggested, put the LOC and washing in a container and let the waves do the washing underway. But it's best to leave soaking overnight.

It keeps us clean until we can get some more fresh water ashore somewhere to get the salt out.

Cheers,

In some 20 years of living aboard and cruising we found MANY PLACES that had
no Laundromat. Laundromats are usually only found in the big city main
commercial ports of the South Pacific, Central America or the Caribbean -
places we attempt to avoid. And if there was one, it was frequently
extremely expensive and/or miles from the dinghy dock.

Soaking clothes loosens up the dirt so that not much agitation is needed.
The real work of hand washing clothes is in wringing them out - especially
jeans. What I wouldn't have given for some kind of a hand operated wringer.
