=sail, but I find it quite a chore bringing my heavy
=CQR, and chain rode, back to the cockpit.

I have the same problem, a 45 lb CQR and all chain. What I will sometimes
do is coast to a dead stop where I want to anchor and drop the anchor I keep
in aft on the pushpit over. It's just a small 20 lb Danforth on a bit of
chain and small line. I'll snub up on short scope and while it holds the
boat I'll go forward and drop the CQR and chain to the bottom and flake out
some extra on deck before I secure it.
Then I'll go back and retrieve the Dan forth and power back on the CQR to
set it and then go forward to play out any extra scope and get it tidied up.
It's not pretty and it's time consuming and I only do it if I have to. But
if you have to anchor in a place where you can't drift or where the wind or
current cause you to drift too fast, it works.
