Web,

There are so many variables to docking that it's impossible to cover them
all. Going alongside a dock is easier than pulling into a slip. Wind
direction and force will affect what you do first. Fill in some details,
and I'll be happy to make suggestions.

The easiest way to anchor as a singlehander was first explained to me by Hal
Roth. Just prior to arriving at the anchorage, he brings his anchor back to
the cockpit, with the rode led outboard of all shrouds and lines to the bow.
While under minimum sail, he heads downwind until he reaches the spot where
he wants to anchor, drops the anchor overboard, and lets the boat's momentum
set the anchor. When the bow spins into the wind, he douses any remaining
sail. Then he enjoys his cocktail, while others around him are still
maneuvering to drop their anchors<G>!

Enjoy your new boat!
