John, I will spend some time thinking about approaches to cruising
and in particular cruising for the hearing impaired. One comment
though, the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), the association that
manages HAM radio in the USA has programs for the hearing impaired
using tactile sensors. Using Morse Code is as easy for the hearing
impaired as it is for those of us who think we have all our senses.
Log onto
http://www.arrl.org/
and search around. Send them a message asking for a voluteer
examiner and hearing impaired tutors, usually folks who are also deaf
who can assist you.
With CW (Morse in HAM jargon) you will be able to communicate with
thousand of other cruising sailors. Rick the Mouseherder can
probably help you with a CW only net.
Regards
Dave
