Hi
I have Marine Underwriters. I have used them for about 10 years. When I
hear d about Bluewater I called MU and asked. They said no problem for
them. They cover all the places I want to go. The only restrictions have
to do with huricanes. They have had competitive rates and paid the only
claims I know about properly.
I have no interest in MU.

This is not an advertisement and I have gain no monetary reward or
other wise from this post. I make it only because some fellow
cruising sailors might benefit. Several American cruisers have
expressed concern as to the demise of insurance carriers willing to
cover American registered yachts. Others such as Boat US will not
cover yachts in other than American territorial waters. I contacted
Don Street, the well known Caribbean cruising guide author and the
cartographer for the Imray Iolaire chart series. Don is also a long
time Lloyds marine broker. I have known Don for some years and he
carries my insurance. The following is Don's response.
"Just point out to anyone that is having trouble as long as it is a
good boat, good crew, worth $100,000 or more I can place the
insurance in Lloyds. Covering boats anywhere in the world where a
reasonable yachtsman would like to go. I have been doing it for 38
years, 34 years in Lloyds with David Payne (now semi-retired but
still over sees my account). A continuity that is unmatched in the
industry. Most important our claims settlement record cannot be
beaten".
