Subject: [worldcruising] RE: starting a diesel
From: Barry Brazier (barryb@XXX.XXX)
Date: Thu Aug 30 2001 - 04:12:17 EDT
I have been trying to start my Yanmar qm30C diesel
for weeks.
I left it for several months without a start and now I am having no luck
I got it to run for about 1 min. on the first day. Then it got gradually
slower and stopped.
I have since replaced the fuel filters, checked compression, had the
injectors cleaned and tested, replaced one injector pipe (due to a bad
thread at the injector), I have checked there is no water in the cylinders
(hydrolicking), I have bled the fuel system several times but still no luck.
I have checked that the valves are not stuck and I have tried putting a
little oil in the cylinders.
But all with no avail.
My friendly mechanic advises me not to use Areostart as he says the ether
will break a cylinder on a Yanmar. ( he get one or two a year)
My fuel looks clear but it is five year old. I will try some fresh fuel this
week end.
Ambient Temperature is about 10 to 14 C
Any suggestions
Barry
