Subject: [worldcruising] The Mexican Law

I spent 25 plus years working in Mexico and have some experience with
the laws of the country. One of my very close friends is a professor
of law in Mexico City. First and for most under Mexican Law if you
are charged with a crime, you are guilty until you can prove yourself
inocent. A rather difficult job from behind bars. If you are arrested
for a crime, you will go straight to jail with no bail. The only
bail system they have in Mexico is called an AMPRRO, and this is an
instrament that prohibit the cops from putting you in jail for a
pacific crime. The trick is you have to get it before they come to
arrest you.
Once arrested you will go to jail where you will wait to see the
judge. The evidence is presented and you are found guilty, unless you
have a very strong and solid aliby, and a very good lawyer. Once you
have been tried and found guilty, you go to prison and do time. You
can make apeals and even get a new trial, but that is very slow and
costly.
The prisons in Mexico are not like the country clubs we have here in
the USA. In Mexico they are real hell holes where you have no
rights, and unless you have money to buy yourself some protection,
you will not have a place to sleep or something to eat. This
information on the prisons came from my father-in-law who spent three
years in prison in Sinaloa. I sent money to him via a family member
continually while he was incarserated. I bought him a bed, and paid
for a spot in a small room to put his bed. The family member saw to
him getting food and clothes.
I would not want to be these guys. This has created an international
incedent. Mexico loves the tourist trade and the money that it
brings to the country. I am sure that they will treat this situation
with prompt justice Mexican style...
