Good morning Jim, it seems like a pretty good book on basics and
troubleshooting. I would also recommend get the shop manual for your
engine. The one for the Volvos we have does have some basic trouble
shooting flow charts and it does show you where everything is on the engine.
Takes the guess work out figuring what they are talking about in another
book. I am the same as you, been working on gas engines since I was 15 and
these are my first diesels. Actually everyone I talk to say diesels are
much easier, basically if you have good clean fuel and compression, you have
a running engine. Just have to figure out what can take these away now.
