Good morning Bryan, in the Volvo shop manual, it says normally bleeding at
the filter (on the engine block) is sufficient, if a problem persists loosen
the delivery pipes at the injectors. I am going to try this and will report
back for everyone's benefit. I have one more engine to go yet !

Why bleed injectors?

I've had a mechanic tell me that once diesel fuel is past the
high-pressure pump, there's no place in the system where air can lock
it up. Seems to make sense to me, but I'm no mechanic.
