Based in New Bern, I sail the Pamlico frequently. For
protected water, it (along with sections of the Neuse
and Pamlico Rivers) can get a bit rough with steep
square waved building quickly in the Pamlico's shallow
waters. Years back I had a Dana 24 and got knocked
around a good bit headed to Ocracoke... the bow
burying and brown water washing over the deck like I
was a kid belly-boarding in the surf. Cracked a tooth
on the tiller. Anyway, there's a lot of 22's down
here. Don't underestimate what the Pamlico can do when
it blows over 30 and you'll do fine and have lots of
fun. See you on the water!
