Certainly true.

But don't fall for the myth that HF radio communications is always available.
There are times when HF just won't work - atmospherics, sunspots, geographic
position, whatever.

Satellite communications are the future. You will see more and more technology
developed which will make it increasingly reliable, cheap, and desirable for
cruisers. HF will be like LORAN - a backup and a curiosity.

And note that the LEO satellites in use today do not require directional
antennas. Their devices look like large cell phones.
