I had an old Codan 10 channel SSB which worked fine but I wanted more
frequencies.
I bought a second hand Codan 8528 that has the full frequency range that you
would get in a new radio.(370 channels, scan etc) I paid $1000 for it and
sold my old Codan for $250 in the paper.
I bought the radio through a local radio mechanic. I suggest ringing around
whoever fixes radios and ask them what they have or know is available.
I kept the manual tuner as it works fine. Auto tuners are not absolutely
necessary, just a very convenient bit of hardware.
I second Barry's comments on Penta Comstat. We are off to Townsville then
the Louisiades in PNG in two weeks and will use them as the primary contact
point.
