[worldcruising] New Boat (to me that is)

Hi all,

I just got back from a small trip from Pensacola to Galveston Bay,
(clear lake), and back. A customer of mine put me onto an Allied
Princess 36 for sale for 15k that I had to check out. It had a
locked up motor and needed new cushions in the interior as well as new
sails. Well I bought her for 10k and discovered that the engine lock
up was due to rust on the fly wheel. I must be living right or
something. I had to rebuild the raw water pump, install a new front
cover, (a weak point on perkins 4-107), and flush and change oil in
transmission. If they had hired me to do the work it would have cost
them around $450-$500. On top of all this good luck I happened to
hear about a delivery job to take an Irwin 34 to the very marina in
Clear Lake that my Princess was in! :) That paid for my trip both
ways. The trip through the ditch was eventful and interesting.
Definitely not cruiser country as we saw only 5 pleasure boats
between Perdido Bay and Galveston Bay. Same count on the way home.
We made one little detour up to Avery Island where they make Tabasco
hot sauce. We took a wild, if short, ride on the Mississippi river in
downtown New Orleans during the peak of Mardi Gras. Folks there were
trees floating in that river bigger than my boat. We hit 12 knots on
the GPS! Spent a total of 45 hours shut down waiting for fog to lift
off of the "old muddy" too. All in all it has been another great
adventure.

Life is good!

Now I have to try to part with my Nimble 30, (heavy sigh). In a
perfect world we could keep all our boats I guess.
Cheers

George
