Thanks folks.

I think the redundancy/back-up argument is the clincher - so 2 radios (one
marine band - with amateur option "add on") plus a "stand-alone" amateur.

Next question. Same brand? Which models? Expert advice needed.

We've got 2 back-stays so we can have separate antennae.
