Hello,

If you have a Ham license, then I think it is no legal problem to have a
marine ssb also enabled for ham frequencies, because it will then just do
that, and you won't be able to emit on frequencies you don't have a license
to. The inverse is not possible, because ham gear is not that programmable,
you will just disable the emiting limits and you will be able to emit on any
frequency, not just marine and ham freqs.

Technically it is no problem at all, as a marine ssb tranceiver and a ham
shortwave tranceiver are virtually the same thing. A second radio is only
good as a back up, or if you are very radio-active !

I am using a Kenwood TS 140 S ham radio. I bought it because by just looking
at it, I understood the function of about 80 % of the buttons, and I was
only a starting ham at the time. I still think it was a valid reasoning, for
I also had to use the radio while not having slept for 30 h or so, when
reasoning becomes very difficult. It is of course a very simple radio, and I
would now go for something more elaborate, but I am not saying that I do not
like my radio anymore.

hope to hear you on the bands (when my gear is up and running again here at
home)
