...You may have seen the news item recently about the joint search and rescue operation in the South Atlantic, that resulted in an American yachtsman being winched to safety shortly before his yacht sank. You may be interested to read the following message that was subsequently sent by Air Commodore John Cliffe (CO of the CBFFI) to Rear Admiral Alejandro Kenny, CO of the Comando del Area Naval Austral in Ushuaia.
"Please pass my thanks to all those involved in the rescue of Mr. Roger T. Paul, solo Captain of the yacht CASEIOPEA. Mr. Paul was successfully recovered from the stricken yacht that was foundering in the seas. I would particulary like to recognize the valuable assistance provided by Capitan de Corbeta Javier Oyarzabal, the officers and men of the ARA PARKER and the crews of the ORION P 3 who were involved in the rescue mission. Undoubtedly the success of this rescue operation has been due to the close coordination between our two organizations (British & Argentine Navy) and I sincerely trust that our professional relationship will continue to grow and develop. It's not often that we get such good news story on cooperation in the South Atlantic, and if you think it worthwhile, we would be delighted to see this closing gesture get into print"...
