They use a Danfoss compressor which is quickly becoming the industry
standard.
We have twin Frigoboats (which also uses the Danfoss) with direct
evaporation
(no holding plates) running on 24V. The direct evaporation takes up much
less
room in the frige and reefer than a holding plate. As you are running off
DC
anyway there is no advantage that I know off to cool down a holding plate.
If
it was engine drive then that is a different story. We have keel coolers
which work very well and avoid the reliability issues of sea water
exchangers
and their associated pumps.
John Neale and Amanda Swan have been using their system (same as above) for
6
years in the South Seas with no problems. We have only had ours a year and
lost
the control electronics on day 2 (we now have a spare guaranteeing this will
not happen again) but have had no problems since.
Real world power consumption is about 40A/day at 24V. One trick is to keep
the
freezer filled to the top by putting 1 gallon bottles of water in the
bottom.

Hi
Anyone have any experience with Isotherm's ASU units. Specifically the 5301
or 5801. Reliability? Do they perform as advertised? Any comments good or
bad?
It's time to replace mine and these look good in the adds.
Thanks
