Bob installed the fixed steps, and he did it with the mast on the
boat in the water. He used a climbing harness with ascenders to do
the work (found it in Mountain Gear I think). The only problem he
had was that he got aluminum dust on his shoes, and slipped on the
companionway steps and fell into the cabin and hurt his shoulder.

He went up the mast last week while we were at anchor in front of Ft.
Jefferson (Garden Key, Dry Tortugas) and had no problem. He put in
the mast steps because I can't grind and tail him up - I tried once
and got the lines crossed, and if some nice dock neighbor hadn't
gotten him down, he'd be up there yet. And he certainly couldn't get
me up there - not that I would mind, but I wouldn't know what to do
when I got there, plus I weigh over 220 lbs.
