I am not sure why a lift keel would be desirable in the Pacific, most
anchorages and harbors are pretty deep. My own opinion is that the hassles
and possible problem with a lift keel are way beyond the advantages that it
offers. However, our friends Sandy and Sidney VanZandt on Sequil had twin
dagger boards, very little draft and really loved it. However, their
technology was very simple. I have been told that jamming of lift keels is
a real issue. If you look at the owners manuals for boats that have them,
they always have a section on how to deal with problems.
