Richard,

They are excellent - if your partner/crew member is a chiropractor!
Otherwise, the bunk is a better idea.

I've just finished reading Tania Aebi's book "Maiden Voyage"
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0345410122/> and one of the
things that strikes me (apart from all her trouble with her engine)
was that her bunk was always getting wet. I was wondering whether
anyone had any experience of sleeping in a hammock while voyaging,
and whether it was practical.
