Why not have him go to the nearest US consulate or embassy and
request a visa? I'd think such a minor offense, without a recent
recurrence might be overlooked.

The international law of "force majeure" would apply. You and your
crew would be allowed to stay for whatever minimum time was necessary
to make your vessel seaworthy/provisioned/etc.

Many visas have short expirations. Best to get the first before you
leave, then get subsequent visas prior for departing for that country.

I believe while on the high seas, you are subject to the laws of the
country where the vessel is registered. When you clear customs at
each country, you can be certain the customs official will ask you
about firearms. If you're carrying them, you may be asked to turn
them in for the duration of the visit.
