When I looked at sailing a substantial distance the number of C-Maps I would
need made it too expensive. ARCS would cost over $4500 USD
I spent over $2000 on paper charts using Bellingham photocopies as it is.
It would be possible to have just about all the world charts on a DVD
If they were as cad files instead of bitmapped files they could fit on a CD

Subject: [worldcruising] Electronic Charts systems
Hi,
As we know there are two common ways in having an electronic chart
plotter on board. One is based on using a PC or laptop and the other
based on a dedicated chart plotter.
My experience with the failure in Win 95 and Win 98 is making me very
nervous on using just the software on a laptop.
What is the reliability of the dedicated chart plotters using C-Map?
My intention is not to rely only on the electronics, so I will carry
some paper charts however I am not planning to use a sextant based on
my experience on GPS system
Appreciate any inputs.
