If we get to a point of everyone having an individual EPIRB we might as well
have a radio control for the autopilot.
I had thought it would be a good thing for maintaining control while up the
mast or at the bow dodging bommies etc.

Is that the "dead man's switch"? Like on an outboard. Something that you
wear around your wrist or waist, and if you fall over it stops the motor.
Theoretically a sailboat will luff if the tiller is let go.
So what a bout an auto pilot? I seem to recall that radio controlled
airplanes will begin to circle if they get out of range. Is there an
electronic transmitter that will allow an auto pilot to operate normally
only
if it receives signal from some transmitter. One tht is presuamably worn on
the overboard victim. Anyone ever sen that? For a self steer it will have
to be strictly mechanical. a rope of some sort. Fall over, and it would
have to release the self steering and the boat would hopefully luff up.
Is any of this better than wearing a harness like you are supposed to?
BTW I remember that on the Ra Expeditions that they towed a line for
overboards, as they were unable to turn around. I do not recall if it ever
saved anyone though.
